Shaun Fury Explores Own Potential, Perseverance and Natural Excellence

What is a Natural Body Builder? What is the history of Natural Body Building? What part do you play in it? SHAUN FURY: Natural Bodybuilding is the side of the sport that no one talks about. There are a multitude of bodybuilding federations that prohibit the use of PEDs (performance-enhancing drugs) to compete. The most notable of all bodybuilding federations is called the NPC/IFBB. This is an exciting time in the history of this sport as this most prominent federation is actually starting to prioritize natural bodybuilding more than ever before and are creating there own circuit of drug-tested shows for natural bodybuilders to compete on an even playing field. My intention is to become a professional natural bodybuilder within the biggest bodybuilding federation, IFBB, and become the face of this sport. In the same way that Arnold Schwarzenegger popularized the sport of bodybuilding through his star power, constant promotion, and starring in a documentary, it is my intention to execute the same strategy only for natural bodybuilding.

Can you tell us about yourself, your family and what part of the country you grew up in? how was your life growing up in America?

SHAUN FURY : I’m originally from New Jersey. I grew up with my parents and my older brother. I’ve always had a passion for acting and filmmaking, and actually set out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Shaun Fury

When did your interest for fitness begin? When did you start thinking of it as a sport?

SHAUN FURY: I started working out at a pretty early age, 12 years old. I did it with the hopes of becoming more attractive to the girls in my middle school. I thought that if I had six pack abs I would get more attention, so I started doing crunches every night before going to sleep. Happy to report that it worked to some extent. Girls did become a lot more receptive to me after the secret got out that I had abs. From that point on I always kept an interest in fitness and enjoyed my ability to change and improve my physique by spending time in the gym. In high school I was aware of the sport of bodybuilding however I never considered the option of competing as a bodybuilder as I did not really like the appearance of the top athletes in the sport. Ronnie Coleman was considered the greatest bodybuilder at that time and I felt that he was far too large for me to ever want to aspire to be like him. It wasn’t until the past two years where I realized the lack of attention and relevancy applied to the sport of Natural Bodybuilding (bodybuilding without the use of steroids) that I decided to compete as a Natural Bodybuilder and put a spotlight on this side of the sport.

Can you share with us what brands are supporting Natural Body Building?

SHAUN FURY: Natural bodybuilding really doesn’t have the level of support that I believe it deserves. However, some prominent brands include supplement companies like Optimum Nutrition, which has a range of products certified free from banned substances, and Gymshark, which sponsors a number of natural athletes. Additionally, smaller, niche brands that focus on natural supplements and clean nutrition are slowly getting involved to support athletes who compete naturally.

Shaun Fury

What themes were you exploring with this film and whatare their significance to everyday life?

SHAUN FURY: In my documentary, I explore themes of realizing your own potential, perseverance, and natural excellence. These themes are significant to everyday life as they promote the idea that one can achieve greatness without resorting to shortcuts. It emphasizes the importance of hard work, dedication, and staying true to oneself, values that are applicable in all areas of life, not just in bodybuilding.

Who are others in the sports worth noting? What region is most active in this sport? Where do the events usually happen? Is it Televised?

SHAUN FURY: The most notable figure in the world of natural bodybuilding would have to be Mike O’Hearn although it has long since been believed within the community that he is dishonest about his claim of being a lifetime natural. Which is why it is so important to me to fill this vacancy of a lack of a prominent natural bodybuilding figure. There is also successful Youtuber, Jeff Nippard, known for his evidence-based approach to bodybuilding. The sport is particularly active in North America, with regions like California, Texas and Florida hosting many competitions. Major events usually take place in cities with a strong fitness culture, such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Miami. While natural bodybuilding events aren’t as widely televised as mainstream bodybuilding competitions, they are gaining more traction streaming platforms and social media, allowing for broader exposure.

Shaun Fury, natural bodybuilding competition

What challenges have you confronted while preparing for competitions? What injuries, if any? How do injuries impact your Readiness?

SHAUN FURY: I recently just competed in my first bodybuilding show this past June. I ended up placing second in my class, competing against natural and enhanced athletes alike. Preparing for competitions involves intense physical and mental challenges. One of the biggest hurdles is maintaining a strict diet and training regimen without overtraining, which can lead to injuries. I’m grateful that I have been able to avoid any serious injuries that could have prevented me from continuing my training. I prioritize rest and recovery and always make sure to get adequate amount of sleep each night.

How would you define ambition? How do you feel about the use of the phrase “Gym Whore”?

SHAUN FURY: Ambition is the relentless pursuit of one’s goals and dreams, driven by a deep-seated desire to achieve excellence and make a meaningful impact. It’s about setting high standards for oneself and continuously striving to meet and exceed them. As for the phrase “Gym Whore”, I certainly don’t mind it. Perhaps it could be perceived as having a negative association since the term whore is often used derogatively. However, I have never been one to use the term whore with a negative connotation attached, so to be called a Gym Whore would simply suggest to me a person that loves to workout.

Natural Bodybuilding Competition - Shaun Fury.

How do you see your career impact the American lifestyle today or in the future?

SHAUN FURY: My career has the potential to inspire a shift towards a more health-conscious and naturally-driven fitness culture in America. By promoting natural bodybuilding, I hope to encourage people to pursue their fitness goals through hard work and dedication rather than the use of performance enhancing drugs. This can lead to a broader apprecation for natural athleticism and help redefine societal standards of health and fitness.

Donte Ware (L) Shaun Fury(R)

What are your future plans for the sport and for yourself?

SHAUN FURY: My future plans include continuing to compete as a Natural Bodybuilder and aiming for professional status within the IFBB. I also plan to expand my documentary to reach a wider audience, shedding light on what can be achieved naturally. Additionally, I hope to launch a platform dedicated to natural bodybuilding, offering resources, training programs, and a supportive community for those who share this passion.

Outside of fitness what do you do in your spare time?

SHAUN FURY: While fitness does take up a huge amount of my daily routine, I also thoroughly enjoy going to the movies, listening to music and socializing with friends and family. One of my favorite ways to relax is by spending the day with my son at a park or walking him through my neighborhood in his stroller. I also enjoy reading and constantly seek to educate myself on various topics, ranging from nutrition and wellness to personal development.

How would you define your personal style outside of your workout gear? Or is that your style?

SHAUN FURY: My personal style outside of workout gear is incredibly casual and laid back. I enjoy comfortable clothing that allows me to move freely, reflecting my active lifestyle. However, I do like to dress up for special occasions and appreciate classic, well-tailored pieces that exude confidence and sophistication.

Is there anything specific you want to share with our readers?

SHAUN FURY: I want to share with your readers the importance of believing in oneself and the power of perseverance. Whether in fitness or any other aspect of life, staying true to your values and working diligently towards your goals can lead to incredible achievements. Embrace your journey, stay dedicated, and remember that great things are possible naturally. Thank you for the opportunity to share my story.

AI to Find Your Color Palette in 5 Simple Steps

A few months ago, as I sipped my morning coffee and pondered the vibrant chaos of my closet, I realized it was time for a makeover—not just any makeover, but one with a splash of tech-savvy magic that would make even Carrie Bradshaw proud. A few months ago, as I sipped my morning coffee and pondered the vibrant chaos of my closet, I realized it was time for a makeover—not just any makeover, but one with a splash of tech-savvy magic that would make even Carrie Bradshaw proud.

It’s no secret that personalized color analysis is trending on social media. Color analysis is a system for figuring out which colors flatter you the most. It considers your natural coloring: including your skin tone, hair color, and eye color.

By analyzing these features, you can be categorized into one of the “color seasons” (like Winter, spring, Summer or Fall). Each season has its own color palette that’s designed to harmonize with your unique coloring and make you look your most radiant.

You may be surprised by the color analysis even if you think you already know your undertones. Before delving into personalized analysis, let’s explore each seasonal color palette and how they generally correspond to various physical characteristics:

Winter: Those in this category typically have light to dark skin with cool undertones, often with a blue or olive hue. Their hair is dark and cool, such as black, dark brown, or ash blonde, and their eyes are deep and intense, including dark brown, black, icy blue, or dark green.

Spring: Individuals typically have light to medium skin with warm undertones, often appearing peachy or golden. Their hair is usually light blonde, strawberry blonde, light brown, or golden brown, and their eyes are light and clear, such as blue, green, or light hazel.

Summer: People in this category generally have light to medium skin with cool undertones, giving a pinkish or blue hue. Their hair ranges from light blonde to medium brown with ash or neutral tones, and their eyes are light and soft, including shades like blue, gray, soft green, or light hazel.

Fall: These individuals often possess medium to dark skin with warm undertones, displaying a golden, olive, or bronze hue. Their hair is rich and warm, such as dark brown, auburn, chestnut, or deep red, and their eyes are deep and warm, like brown, hazel, green, or warm blue.

Here is your Step-by-Step Guide to Finding Your Color Palette with AI:

Step 1: Take a selfie in front of a window with natural, soft light—avoid harsh lighting.

Step 2: Open your selfie in your camera roll, select “Edit,” and then “Markup” (the marker icon). Use the color dropper tool to pick colors from your photo.

Step 3: Hover the color dropper over your forehead, the midsection of your hair, and next to your pupil. Screenshot or note the “Display P3 Hex Color #” for your skin, hair, and eye colors.

Step 4: Open ChatGPT and type a prompt similar to this (you can copy and paste this template):

“Please help me with my color analysis. I would like to wear clothes that compliment my skin tone, eye color and hair color. My skin tone number is #[insert your color code], my eye color is #[insert your color code] and my hair color is #[insert your color code]. Which skin tone pallet am I in terms of winter, spring, summer or fall, please.”

Step 5: The AI will provide a personalized color analysis. If needed, rephrase the prompt or provide more details. For more insights, ask follow-up questions like:

  • Specifically which colors would suit me best?

  • Which colors should I avoid wearing?

  • Please tell me what colors I should wear for makeup, nails and jewelry.

And that’s it, it’s that easy! With a sprinkle of AI and a dash of curiosity, you’re not just finding colors; you’re finding yourself. So, here’s to embracing technology with style, to playing dress-up with a purpose, and to always coloring outside the lines. After all, life’s too short to wear boring colors!

Strategy for Women to Climb Executive Ladder

By Berta Montoya

Societal norms and Self-description of leadership traits greatly influence the discrepancy of women reaching top-level leadership roles.

Cortney Baker (2014) shared multiple studies that consistently prove women possess the skills and qualities established as leadership traits, yet they must catch up to men in top executive roles. In a 2012 study, 7,280 leaders concurred that, like in many other studies, women outscored their counterparts in comparing 16 competencies that top leaders embodied most (Baker, 2014). Despite what the numbers show, women demonstrate the skill sets necessary for company advancement; the primary skill hindering their ascent to the top of the corporate ladder is the ability to implement a strategic vision. Women have proven to be visionaries, but they may express these traits differently than men. (Baker, 2014). This raises an intriguing question: must women conform to traditional notions of leadership, or can they redefine it to suit their unique strengths?

When women do display male-stereotypical behavior and traits, they are penalized as they are straying away and violating the standard of gender roles by many who endorse tradition. Women face a double-edged sword; if they exhibit male traits, they are not accepted by their peers, and when they do not show enough male traits, they are categorized as unsuited to a top executive role. When women do break the glass ceiling because they are nonconforming to the cultural definition of femininity, in leadership, they are labeled as either “too feminine or too masculine” (Sczesny et al., 2004). This struggle causes an internal conflict, and women describe themselves as less equipped for top executive roles.

A 2021 study of women’s underrepresentation in health care by Mariam Mousa and others found that organizations that promote the transfer of experiences and learning to the group improve talent retention, reputation, and learning, creating a more prepared and diverse workforce. Increased capability and heightened awareness of unconscious bias and organizational mitigation strategies encouraged women’s self-efficacy and reduced counterproductive thinking and behaviors that hinder leadership potential (Mariam et al., 202. p. 6).

Therefore, the strategy for women to climb to the top of the executive ladder is not to compare themselves to their male counterparts but instead to nurture and exhibit their styles and show without doubt the value they bring to organizations.Another idea is to teach and develop women to value their strengths and ignore gender stereotypes regarding what is believed to be the “right culturally accepted leadership traits and skills.”

One way for organizations to create awareness and unity is for corporations to understand that no human being will possess all the leadership traits in a job description. Instead, learn to value the different characteristics and strengths women bring to the organization despite global stereotypes.

The World’s Best Vivid Color Artist: Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor tells us how her life of color transformed her work and her life. A story of discovery, and US Lifestyle Magazine is here for it. We asked her about her life, her work and her transformation.

IN HER OWN WORDS:

My name is Rebecca Taylor, I’ll be 41 in July. I was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but moved to NW Florida when I was pretty young and spent about 30 years there. I grew up an only child until I was 20…my little brother was born then but I was LONG out of the house by then doing my own thing. I was always a creative kid, interested in drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I loved music, art and people.

REBECCA TAYLOR

AGAINST ODDS:

I’ve always been kind of a non-conformist, ‘alternative’ thinking/dressing kind of individual. Even in VERY conservative NW Florida (which pretty much bordered Alabama as a reference, not Miami Florida FLORIDA) I felt like an outsider in a way. I was the overweight kid, the poor kid, the kid with gapped teeth…I had it ALL going on. I got bullied a lot even before I had identity. Then I begin to identify a lot more with the alternative scene, music but also in my case…partying, ditching school and the like.

A STORY OF DISCOVERY:

Several years after high school I found what I now know to be my calling and what I feel like has channeled my creativity and helped me make a pretty amazing life for myself- Cosmetology School.

REBECCA TAYLOR

Since becoming a stylist 18 years ago, I’ve been an educator for 15 years of that time, have gone from never leaving the country to traveling to 38 countries teaching my craft, moved to Hollywood 7 years ago to work with tops brands and as an independent educator, been named as the World’s Best Vivid Color Artist by Glamour Magazine in 2016, being on Good Morning America, 600,000+ on Instagram and all kinds of other cool shit that has stroked my ego.

But besides all of those amazing opportunities that I’ve been very grateful for…I’ve also gotten pretty close to losing a lot of what I’ve been worked very hard over the years to build for myself due to putting myself on the back burner and shelving past trauma and addiction that was untreated since pretty much the age of 14-15 years old.

I’m proud to say that I have a sobriety date of December 2nd, 2020 and not only do I get to share my CRAFT with my industry/peers/on my platform but also my story. I’m very open because I know I’m not the only stylist who is an overachiever, who has trouble sometimes implementing boundaries, who takes ‘people-pleasing’ to the max and who has the tendency to put our own needs last. It happens, it happened to me and it took my industry shutting down due to the pandemic for me to take the time FINALLY to focus on my recovery, mental health and wellness to make the necessary changes.

So, the way my industry has brought me back full circle is just to appreciate the little things, the creative process, the PEOPLE and to focus on my own wellness.

ABOUT HER WORK:

How do you celebrate a diverse stylistic American lifestyle?

American culture SHOULD be a celebration of diversity. Our different backgrounds and cultures are what makes us unique and different. Our differences are what make us beautiful.

In my studio- I work with all textures of hair and I share that on my page. Potential clients feel represented and know that whatever color service they’re interested in, I’ve got them!

WORK BY REBECCA TAYLOR

What products are you currently using?

I use so many different brands, it’s going to be hard to list.

F18, Redken, Pulp Riot, K18, ENJOY, several different hair extension lines.

 How do you select color?

I select color for my individual client via a consultation. I do this based on several different variables- complexion, eye color, longevity, intuition, straight up creative expression, at-home care.

As far as creatively, I get my inspiration everywhere. Nature, fashion, animals, the sky, food….quite literally anywhere and everywhere. And because of the kind of color I do, my options are limitless. Any color I see, I can create using hair as my canvas.

How would you define your design esthetic?

Elevated fashion color. If I’m doing an ’unnatural color’ or some vivid fashion tone, I literally want it to look like a work of art on someone’s head.

It comes down to shade choices, blending, precision application, rinsing, etc.

What are your clients looking for?

A lot of my clients come to me for major transformation sessions. Many travel to me from out of state. Some of these appointments can be from 6-10 hours in one session and require really tedious color corrections, black to platinum transformations, color and extension sessions, etc.

I honestly love these kinds of services…I have patience/stamina and the type of strategic, problem solving brain for long appoints and color corrections. I LOVE the big reveal after…really delivering for my clients and making their week/month/year (depending on the situation).

What are the future plans?

Honestly, I’ve accomplished so many rad things already in the industry that I never thought were possible when I was first coming up in my career. For so long I bought into this hustle-culture and said soo many times ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’. *cringe*

WORK BY REBECCA TAYLOR

Right now I’m really happy with the trajectory of my career, which is just educating part time, taking clients part time, taking ALL the weekends off and really, truly enjoying myself…not burning myself out.

What advice can you give others?

BOUNDARIES. It took me until I was 40 to start implementing these things and holy shit the difference they’ve made in my life. It’s not easy, especially if it’s new for you…but man the difference it’ll make with your stress and anxiety level.

 Who inspires you?

People who exhibit kindness, humility, their truth and strength even when it’s not easy. That inspires me.

WORLD BEST VIVID ARTIST REBECCA TAYLOR

What can you tell us about your customer?

My client values communication, honesty and they know we can talk through any questions/comments/concerns they ever have regarding their hair. It’s never just a ‘you want the usual’ kind of appointment…we talk through it.

My client also values HEALTHY hair and knows that good hair is healthy hair and healthy hair takes time.

My clients are openminded, inclusive, hilarious badasses…I’m very fortunate to love the folks that choose to come to see me for their hair.

How would you define your personal style?

My personal style is very fitting to my mood. It could be vintage cords and a metal band t-shirt one day, a sundress another day and a sweatsuit another day. It’s a bleach stained sweatsuit most days…who am I kidding!?

What has been your experience in the industry?

My experience has been very eclectic. I started in a Regis in the mall in Florida to developing my own color line, to being the Director of International Education for a leading product line, I’ve been a salon owner twice…so many other roles and opportunities in between. The one constant for me has always been education. Between constantly trying to stay fresh through learning new techniques and pushing myself and through marketing myself through all the different social media platforms over the years…I think those were the two most vital vehicles which have kept me evolving over the years.

How do you see the future of American style?

My hope is that it becomes even more culturally diverse, inclusive and multifaceted and that there is no question by anyone…. that’s the way it should be.

BEFOR AND AFTER, WORK BY REBECCA TAYLOR

What do you feel are the next decades essential hair elements to include?

Cultural representation of hairstyles without social or political input. Meaning you’re not discriminated against for your hairstyle…. it’s based on your performance. Locs/braids, etc have nothing to do with your character or your performance in the workplace, school, institution, etc. It would be really nice (and necessary) to see these changes made.

HUARACHES: THE CHIC ACCESSORY FOR THE TRAVELING FASHIONISTA

The huarache’s name comes from Tarascan language spoken by the Purépecha people of Jalisco, Mexico who has a key influence on the evolution of the modern huarache as we know in the USA.

The huarache’s name comes from Tarascan language spoken by the Purépecha people of Jalisco, Mexico who has a key influence on the evolution of the modern huarache as we know in the USA.

It was once solely associated with Mexico, but the huarache gained prominence in the U.S. in the 1960s as hippies and surfers adopted the shoe as part of their chill, lackadaisical lifestyle. (Even the Beach Boys sang about them in their ’60s hit “Surfin’ U.S.A.”).

The sandals have grown more popular through the years, and can now be found at weekend flea markets, retail stores and countless online boutiques and sites.  It’s social media presence and influence played a role in making them the must have. The now chic travel accessory for the american fashioniosta has rapidly stepped into  the feet of the rich and famous. With endorsements from celebrities and creators the huarache is more stylish than ever, even making it on a Rolling Stones list of best sandles, with endorsements by Justin Beiber and Kanye . They are now found in the lobbies of luxury resorts all over North America, South America, Europe and even Asia.

In modern-day Japan, The “waraji” also a form of sandles (but not a Huarache) are worn by Buddhist monks and by some fishers of mountain streams. Traditional sandals also exist in Japan called Waraji, a word that sounds quite similar to Huarache although there is no evidence of any connection between the two sandals.

Originally of all-leather construction, the thong structure around the main foot is still traditionally made with hand-woven braided leather straps. Over the years, basic thong designs as the Pata-de-Gallo have developed into complex woven styles.

It’s worth noting that huaraches are also mentioned in the novel Ask the Dust, written by John Fante (Camilla Lopez's shoes), and also in the novel On the Road, written by Jack Kerouac. Skeeter Phelan wears a pair of the shoes, which her traditionalist Southern mother hates, in the Kathryn Stockett novel The Help

Doc Sportello, the detective from Thomas Pynchon's Inherent Vice, wears a pair of huaraches. He eventually loses one shoe and finishes the adventure using only the other one. In the Seinfeld episode "The Millennium" Elayne attempts to buy a pair of Huaraches from a disinterested shop owner.

SOME HISTORY: The sandals are believed related to the cactle or cactli, of Náhuatl origin. The name "Huarache" is derived from the Purépecha language term kwarachi, and directly translates into English as sandal. Early forms have been found in and traced to the countryside communities of Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato and Yucatan.

Best Eye Cream  Based on In-Depth Reviews

THIS STORY IS COURTESY OF CONSUMERADVOCASY.ORG

When our research team at ConsumersAdvocate.org first started researching the eye cream industry, we were surprised by all the conflicting information online about whether they were effective or not. Many reviews online go solely by how these creams feel. This is an important factor, to be sure, but we believe it’s not more important than whether the product actually works. To bring you this unbiased guide to eye creams, we decided to take the top ten best selling eye creams in Amazon (as of this publication), excluding products that aren’t specifically for the eyes, and evaluate them.

The skincare industry is huge, and anti-aging products make up a big part of it. One report found that the anti-aging market was valued at $50.17 billion in 2018. However, the jury is still out on whether eye creams truly have the effect they say they have. A quick glance at the ingredient lists of many popular eye creams reveal some ingredients that have been clinically shown to reduce the signs of aging, and a whole lot of components that haven’t been proven to do much, if anything, at all.

Skin aging can be divided into two processes: intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging. No matter how many creams or treatments we use, the signs of intrinsic aging will always be there in one way or another. It’s simply part of being human.

The term “extrinsic aging”, on the other hand, describes the way external agents make our skin age prematurely. Some of these factors are sun exposure (also known as photoaging), pollution, poor diet, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption.

So in the end, does eye cream actually work? Short answer, yes.

As of right now, there is no cream, lotion, or potion in the world that can reverse aging. Though science is trying to catch up, turning back the clock on our bodies is impossible.

That doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do about those wrinkles. There are several compounds and molecules which have been proven to improve the appearance of our skin by stimulating the production of collagen, reducing the signs of photoaging, and increasing hydration.

Here are our top five Best Eye Creams in 2020:

5. Leven Rose Coffee Eye Lift Cream
4. Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream
3. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream
2. Lilyana Naturals Rosehip & Hibiscus Eye Cream
1. ROC Retinol Correxion Anti-Aging Eye Cream

If you want to read about more eye cream products or if you want to understand the reasoning behind this list and more of the science behind skin aging you can visit our in-depth guide here.

Why Self-Care Became The New Trendy 'IT' Word

By YADIRA FLORES

LCSW PHYCOTHERAPIST, COACH, TRAINER

Many people think that self-care has become trendy.  The “it” word of the times.  There are some who have even begun to shy away from it all together.  However, we’re in a time where our schedules are so full we don’t notice how much of an emotional and physical toll it’s having on us.  The reality is that self-care has become mainstream because of the value it brings. Self-care is a way to refuel and recharge. Having a regular self-care routine helps manage stress and improves your mental health.  You don’t need an elaborate routine to practice self-care. There is no, one size fits all routine.  You have to simply make sure it is deliberate and intentional, and it provides you with care.

unsplash-image-DFtjXYd5Pto.jpg

One of the most important things to remember is that self-care is about receiving care and not self-escaping.  What is the difference? For many, the notion of being deserving of receiving care is far fetching. Over time not caring for yourself causes less enjoyment in things that use to bring you happiness.  You find yourself less tolerant of daily stressors.  When this happens you begin to think of self-care, as an act to self-escape from taxing situations.  You find that instead of the intentional and relaxing glass of wine, you have emptied a whole bottle, and are still in a state of stress and anxiety.  Self-escaping is trying to numb yourself from the pressure you’re experiencing.  When escaping you don’t have individual control of your emotions and body. Self-care on the other hand, is done with awareness and attunement. When someone asks me for ideas on a self-care routine, I find it challenging to provide a list of activities.  Self-care is so individualized and personal.

Instead, I offer a self-check activity to help establish a good self-care routine.  I ask people to evaluate all aspects of themselves to find balance in their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.  I ask they check-in with themselves in the following areas of health:

Mental - What am I doing to fuel my mind? How am I using my thoughts?  What thoughts are working for me? What thoughts are helping me stay emotionally present?

Connectedness - How are my relationships? Am I feeling connected to others? What connections are helping me feel satisfied?

Physical - How is my physical health? How am I keeping my body healthy? What activities am I doing that keep me physical.

Spiritual – What do I see purpose in? What helps me find purpose? What is helping me heal?

If any of those areas are lacking, this is an opportunity to practice self-care. In order to develop a self-care routine, you should start small.  Choose one practice per week, schedule a time, and do it with intent and consistency. The practice that you pick should bring you joy, calmness, pleasure, serenity and/or peace.  The practice should help re-center you. For example, when I feel like I have no energy, I check in with my physical well-being.  I think about what helps me feel more connected to my body.  For me it’s spending at least 30 minutes moving. I am very intentional in finding the perfect time to add a moving activity to my day.  That usually means, getting up first thing in the morning and getting a ride on my exercise bike.  This helps me feel more energized, and I am in a better mood as I get ready to start my work day.

Whatever practice you choose doesn’t have to necessarily bring you balance in all of the areas of wellbeing mentioned above, but it should at least touch on one.  Tackling one area at a time, will help you get one step closer to feeling well-adjusted. Prioritizing yourself will help you be more effective in all areas of your life. Remember, self-care is essential to living a balanced life.

MAQUINN

Indonesia

MAQUINN Couture presents Spring-Summer 2021 collection Pilgrimage, Traces of Ancestral Journey in European Style Indonesian Batik Clothing. Janice Pradipta Setyawan and Benita Pradipta Setyawan, designers and founders of Maquinn Couture explained that the harmonious diversity in the lives of their ancestors in the past inspired the birth of this European-Indonesian batik masterpiece. "Synchronizing two cultures from two continents while maintaining their authenticity, is not easy. In order to create beautiful clothes, the richness of Indonesian batik must be in tune with the power of European fashion. Therefore, we chose "Pilgrimage" as the theme as well as the life of our clothes," said Janice. “This collection is illustrated in a modern floral style. The floral element adapts the batik style that the Indonesian people like to use. Meanwhile, the modern element is taken from a typical European fashion style,” said Benita. Through the “Pilgrimage” collection, Maquinn Couture wants to highlight a feminine side that is flexible, beautiful and fresh but still strong and majestic. Silk woven fabrics, gold ink and genuine leather were chosen as the materials that dominate this collection, produced by maintaining the traditional way. Starting from the weaving of silk fabrics, depicting batik motifs, to making batik fabrics that are ready to be processed, designers maintain all processes for their authenticity. In addition to painting techniques, batik in this collection is applied by combining embroidery and beading techniques. These two techniques were chosen to present a bold, elegant and detailed impression.

HOW DO I APPLY MY SKINCARE SERUM

HOW DO I APPLY MY SERUM ?

STEP 1.

WASH AND EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN BEFORE YOU APPLY YOUR SERUM

Before you apply your serum, wash your face with a facial wash or scrub. Wet your face, then massage your face wash over your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Move your fingers in small, circular motions, then rinse the face wash away. Washing your face removes superficial dirt and oil, while exfoliating gets into your pores for a deep clean. For best results, wash your face daily and exfoliate your skin 3-4 times a week. Do not use a manual exfoliator and a chemical exfoliator like glycolic acid in the same day.

STEP 2.

APPLY A DROP TO EACH SECTION OF YOUR FACE IF USING A THIN SERUM.

SKINCARE SERUM

The amount of serum you use will vary depending on the consistency of the ingredients. When using thinner serums, you only need a tiny amount. Apply 1 drop to your finger, then rub onto your cheek. Repeat this for the other cheek, as well as your forehead and nose/chin area. Gently rub the serum in an upwards motion

STEP 3.

WARM 3-5 DROPS IN YOUR HANDS BEFORE APPLYING A THICK SERUM TO THE FACE.

More dense serums need to be warmed up before you apply them. To do this, drip a few drops into the palm of your hand, then rub your hands together. This evenly distributes the product on both of your hands, as well. Then, use gentle pressing movements to apply the serum over your face. Cover both cheeks, your forehead, your nose, and your chin. When applying the serum, you want to push the product into your skin with gentle sweeping motions.

Step 4.

TAP YOUR SKIN GENTLY FOR 30-60 SECONDS UNTIL THE SIRUM IS ABSORBED.

After you’ve rubbed the serum onto your skin, place your fingers on your cheek and press your skin in small, circular motions. Repeat this across the entirety of your face for about a minute. This way, the serum will absorb deep into your skin.

Step 5.

WAIT ONE MINUTE TO APPLY MOISTURIZER OVER ALL YOUR FACE.

Your serum will mostly dissolve into your skin after about a minute. Then, squeeze a dime-size amount of moisturizer into your hand, and rub it over your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin.

The moisturizer seals in all of the serum’s nourishing properties, so your skin will look radiant and glowing in no time.

If you are doing this in the morning, you can apply your makeup after you apply the moisturizer. Just give the moisturizer another minute to dry before starting your makeup routine.
